# Genesis Mission executive order (EO 14363)

Full title: Trump signs EO 14363 'Launching the Genesis Mission', a national AI-for-science platform run by the Department of Energy

On Nov 24, 2025 President Trump signed Executive Order 14363, "Launching the Genesis Mission", described as "a national effort to accelerate the application of AI for transformative scientific discovery". The Department of Energy builds and runs an "American Science and Security Platform" that joins national-lab supercomputers, federal scientific datasets and AI models, with deadlines from 60 to 270 days. It became the umbrella for the 2026 US AI-for-science programme (278 projects in July 2026, company pledges at the October 2026 science summit).

## Key facts
- Executive Order 14363, signed Nov 24, 2025 (White House)
- The Secretary of Energy implements the Mission and operates the 'American Science and Security Platform'; the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology (OSTP director) coordinates agencies through the National Science and Technology Council
- Deadlines: list of at least 20 national science and technology challenges in 60 days; federal computing, storage and networking resources identified in 90; initial data and model assets in 120; review of robotic laboratories and production facilities for AI-directed experimentation in 240; initial operating capability for at least one challenge in 270 days, subject to appropriations
- Reporting: a report to the President within one year and annually after, plus an annual update of the challenge list
- Quote: 'The Genesis Mission will build an integrated AI platform to harness Federal scientific datasets'

## What happened

The executive order directs the Department of Energy to build one platform that links the national laboratories' supercomputers,
federal scientific datasets, AI models and, later, robotic laboratories, so that AI systems can be used on a set of national
science and technology challenges. The OSTP director coordinates the other agencies. The order sets a timetable: challenge list
(60 days), compute inventory (90), data and model assets (120), robotic-lab review (240) and a first operating capability (270
days, around August 2026), "subject to appropriations".

## Why it matters

It is the legal basis of the US government's 2026 AI-for-science push: DOE's first cohort of 278 projects and more than $5B in
federal commitments (July 2026), and the $2.4B in company pledges at the White House "Science: A New Golden Age" summit
(October 2026). Several 2026 entries mention it only in passing. This backfill entry was written from the order's text.
