# Sabi raises a $50M seed led by Khosla Ventures for a non-invasive 'brain-AI interface' baseball cap that turns imagined speech into prompts

On Oct 9, 2026 Sabi announced a $50M seed round led by Khosla Ventures for a baseball cap with up to ~100K non-contact neural sensors. A "brain foundation model" trained on 100,000+ hours of neural recordings decodes imagined speech and intent into text and AI prompts. An early prototype is due at CES 2027. Performance claims (about 30 words per minute targeted) have not been independently verified.

## Key facts
- Seed: $50M led by Khosla Ventures; Accel, Initialized Capital, DST Global, Collaborative Fund, Ascend and Kevin Weil (former OpenAI CPO) participated (company press release, Oct 9, 2026)
- Hardware: custom EEG chip; sensors of 1–5 mm read signals through hair without gel or surgery; Sabi claims 50x the power efficiency of TI's ADS1299; Forbes/Techmeme: 100K non-contact neuro-sensors
- Data and model: 100,000+ hours of labeled neural recordings (from about 100 volunteers, per earlier coverage), which Sabi calls the largest disclosed dataset of its kind, used to train a 'brain foundation model'
- Functions: imagined speech-to-text, thought-to-prompt AI commands, and prediction of keystrokes and on-screen actions; ~30 words per minute targeted (earlier coverage)
- Founders: CEO Rahul Chhabra; CTO Atmadeep Banerjee (co-first author of MindEye, NeurIPS 2023). Sabi came out of stealth in April 2026 with a 'beanie' form factor
- Vinod Khosla: 'You cannot perform a billion brain surgeries to replace a billion keyboards.' Prototype demo planned for CES 2027

## What happened

Sabi, a California neurotech startup, raised a $50 million seed round to build a wearable, non-invasive brain-computer interface for
everyday AI use. The device is a cap with dense dry EEG-style sensors. Its brain foundation model is trained on a large proprietary set
of neural recordings and aims to turn imagined speech into text and commands for AI assistants. The company has not published accuracy or
speed results for independent review.

## Why it matters

As AI assistants become the main interface to computers, investors are backing non-surgical "thought-to-prompt" input. Whether scalp EEG
can carry enough signal for real imagined-speech decoding is still an open scientific question.
