White House senior AI policy adviser Sriram Krishnan announces he will leave at the end of June 2026
On Saturday June 6, 2026, Sriram Krishnan, Senior White House Policy Advisor on AI since January 2025, announced on X that he would leave at the end of June. He gave no reason and said that "after a break" he would work on "helping tackle some of the large challenges facing America on AI". The Washington Post reported that he planned an outside institution through which he could keep influencing Trump's AI policy.

- David Sacks credited his work on 'policy initiatives and international diplomacy'. White House spokesperson Kush Desai called him 'a critical asset'
- Later: in September 2026 he was reported as a candidate to lead the labs' planned Standards Authority for Frontier AI (SAFA)
What happened
Krishnan's exit came three months after David Sacks left the AI-czar job, leaving the White House without its two most prominent tech-industry AI advisers by July 2026.
Why it matters
These departures help explain the gap that Trump's September 2026 "AI Force" pledge and the October Super Intelligence Force (chair Jay Clayton) were meant to fill. Krishnan stayed relevant as a candidate to run the industry's frontier-AI standards body.
