Anthropic signs a $35B cloud deal with Nvidia-backed Lambda

On Aug 31, 2026 the Wall Street Journal, then Reuters and Bloomberg, reported that Anthropic had signed a cloud-computing deal worth about $35B with Lambda, an Nvidia-backed GPU cloud, to bring Nvidia capacity online for Claude. The contract pushed Lambda's backlog from $15B in June to $50B in September.

Key facts

What happened

Anthropic added Lambda to the clouds it rents Nvidia GPUs from, next to Google TPUs, AWS Trainium and other neoclouds. The deal was found on 2026-10-07 through coverage of Lambda's funding round, five weeks after it was reported, so this entry was written late. The WSJ and Bloomberg articles are paywalled; the facts come from the Reuters summary and TechCrunch. Details of the site and contract length are not confirmed here.

Why it matters

It is one of Anthropic's largest compute commitments of 2026 and on its own more than tripled Lambda's backlog. That shows how far frontier labs now pay for the growth of the neocloud companies.
