MI5 issues a rare espionage alert: a Chinese 'academic' institute funding UK AI research is an MSS front
On Sept 30, 2026 MI5 published a public espionage alert saying the China General Technology Research Institute (CGTRI), which funded UK academic research including AI and cyber security, has "very strong ties" to China's Ministry of State Security.
