GPT-6 Astra clears World of Warcraft's orc starting zone 'blind', from network packets and server data (agent-wow)

★★after cutoffagentsOpenAIconfidence: medium

On Oct 2, 2026 the open-source agent-wow project reported that GPT-6 Astra (xhigh, via Codex), told to "create an orc character and complete all quests in the starting zone", finished every quest in about 40 minutes with zero deaths without seeing a single rendered frame. It built its own tools to read WoW network packets, mined quest data from the server's SQL files and wrote a C++ pathfinder.

Key facts

What happened

A hobby project that gives agents only a raw WoW protocol client tested GPT-6 Astra. The model worked out the game from the server's data rather than from pixels, building a packet interface, a quest planner and a pathfinder on the fly.

Why it matters

It is a capability demo rather than a breakthrough. It shows a model building its own tools to act in a complex environment it cannot see, and it came in the same week as the NetHack and StarCraft results. Commentators (WindowsForum) also noted the risk of running such agents without a sandbox.
