Suno launches Speech (public beta): spoken voice plus background music generated in one track
Suno, the AI music company, released Speech in public beta for all web and mobile users. It is its first product beyond songs: it generates spoken narration with optional background music as a single track, from a short prompt (Simple mode) or a user script with voice gender, speech style and variety settings (Advanced mode). Suno warns that accents can drift and pauses can run long.
Key facts
- Two modes in the Create tab: Simple (one-line description, e.g. 'a pirate captain rallying his crew') and Advanced (own script; voice gender, speech style, variation)
- Public beta for all users on web and mobile (The Verge)
- Known issues per Suno: accent drift (e.g. British drifting to Australian) and longer-than-requested pauses
- Launched while Suno's music product still faces copyright lawsuits (The Verge via Techmeme)
What happened
Suno extended its generator from songs to speech, positioning it for voiceovers, meditations, stories and dramatic readings with a score.
Why it matters
Music-generation companies are moving into the voice/TTS market led by ElevenLabs. Combined speech and score in one pass is a new format for creators.
