Cohere launches North 2, its enterprise agent platform, with cross-session memory, a rebuilt agent harness and org-wide token spending caps
On Oct 5, 2026 Cohere released North 2, a new version of its enterprise agent workspace. It adds agent memory that persists across sessions, a redesigned orchestration harness for multi-step work with human oversight, reusable skills, shared libraries, an app/automation builder, and North Admin cost controls: per-user and per-agent token tracking, quotas, rate limits, consumption tiers and company-wide token caps. It runs on cloud, on-premises or fully air-gapped deployments.
Key facts
- New: cross-session agent memory; redesigned agent harness; Skills, Libraries, Applications (decks, dashboards, documents), Automations (templates, drag-and-drop builder), shareable agents
- Cost governance in North Admin: token spend tracked per user and agent, user/group consumption tiers based on request and token rates, org-wide token caps, real-time analytics
- Model-agnostic: Cohere's Command models or customers' own; optimised for Nvidia Blackwell and Hopper
- Connectors: Slack, SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, Jira, Linear, Notion, GitHub; planned: PitchBook, Crunchbase, Daloopa, FiscalAI, S&P Global, FactSet
- Deployment: self-hosted, VPC, hybrid, on-prem, air-gapped; SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001

What happened
Cohere announced North 2 on Oct 5, 2026. It is the second major version of North, the agent workspace Cohere sells to enterprises and governments that want AI agents inside their own security perimeter. Most of the release targets two complaints about enterprise agents: they forget context between sessions, and their token costs are hard to control. North 2 answers with persistent per-agent memory and admin tools that meter and cap spending down to individual users and agents.
Why it matters
As agent workloads multiply token use, budget governance has become a selling point. Cohere is pitching sovereign, on-prem and air-gapped deployment, its niche against OpenAI and Anthropic's enterprise agents, while its merger with Aleph Alpha is pending.
