Munich robot-arm maker RobCo reaches a $1B valuation in a $40M secondary sale; CEO moves to the US

★★after cutoffbusinessRobCoconfidence: high

On Oct 5, 2026 the WSJ and Reuters reported that RobCo, a Munich maker of modular industrial robot arms and automation software, was valued at more than $1B in a ~$40M secondary sale of mostly employee shares. That doubles the ~$500M valuation of its $100M January 2026 round. CEO Roman Hölzl has moved to the US to lead expansion there, and RobCo plans to launch "Alfie", a self-learning dual-arm manufacturing robot, in March. It is one of several new European physical-AI unicorns.

Key facts

What happened

RobCo's unicorn valuation came through an employee secondary rather than new primary capital. New and existing VCs bought about $40M of shares. Reuters said Hölzl relocated to the US because that market is bigger and growing faster than Europe.

Why it matters

This is a small data point in the 2026 physical-AI funding boom. Press coverage put robotics and physical-AI startup funding in H1 2026 at $33.4B, more than in all of 2025 (figure seen in coverage of this deal, not checked against its original source). It is also another European robotics company moving its leadership to the US.
