Key facts
- HomeView: $299 for either model (tabletop in four colors; wall-mounted in two); 7-inch Liquid Retina display; A18 chip with Secure Exclaves; pre-orders Oct 13 in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the UK and the US (Singapore from Oct 15; South Africa via resellers); available Fri Nov 13, 2026
- HomeView users: recognizes up to six people, each with a personal Home Screen. Personal content (Messages, Calendar) appears only when the enrolled user is recognized by face and their paired iPhone or iPad is present and recently unlocked. John Gruber: ‘HomeView does not have FaceID’; an Apple Watch does not count as the personal device
- Siri AI on HomeView (Apple): ‘broad world knowledge’, onscreen awareness and music discovery for anyone; personal context and actions across apps only with a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad. Footnote: Siri AI ‘is in beta’ in HomeView software 27.2; ‘some features that rely on server-side models have daily usage limits’, and expanded access will cost a fee in the future
- Models: Apple names none. It says Siri requests run on-device or in Private Cloud Compute. Gemini is not mentioned in the Oct 13 releases (background: Apple said in 2026 that its Siri AI models were built with Google’s Gemini; see the WWDC 2026 and iOS 27 entries)
- Languages and countries for Siri AI on these devices: English in the US, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the UK; Canadian French later
- EU: HomeView is ‘not available for sale’ in the European Union because Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS there; Apple says it is ‘working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward’ and gives no date (Apple press release; MacRumors)
- Apple TV 4K (4th generation): $299; A19 chip (Apple: up to 50% faster CPU, up to 2x GPU), dedicated AV1 decoder, three far-field microphones for hands-free ‘Siri’; 128GB storage, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 per The Verge (via Techmeme’s summary; article not read); pre-orders Oct 13 in the US and 29 other countries, in stores Nov 13
- Siri AI on Apple TV: full-screen conversational search and recommendations, questions during playback, smart-home control; beta in tvOS 27.2 on Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later); the home owner needs an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad with Siri AI turned on

- HomePod mini 2: $149, S10 chip, ‘Sound Glow’ lighting, five colors, pre-orders Oct 13, available Oct 30. Siri AI is not there at launch: it comes ‘via a future software update’. Up to six household members recognized by voice
- Privacy claims (Apple): camera and microphone data on HomeView and microphone data on Apple TV are processed in Secure Exclaves, isolated from the system software, apps and Apple; Private Cloud Compute data ‘is not stored or made accessible to Apple’
- Also announced: Apple Home Collection, smart-home accessories (cameras, thermostats, a doorbell, a lock) developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, from December 2026, some in early 2027
- Executives quoted: Greg Joswiak (SVP Worldwide Marketing): HomeView ‘is designed to be shared by everyone in the home yet feel completely personal to each user’; Bob Borchers (VP Worldwide Product Marketing) on Apple TV
What happened
Apple used press releases, not an event, to launch its long-rumoured home line: a 7-inch smart display called HomeView, a faster Apple TV 4K with far-field microphones, and a second HomePod mini. The common selling point is Siri AI, the assistant Apple rebuilt for iOS 27. On HomeView and Apple TV it is labelled beta; on HomePod mini 2 it arrives later.
The devices lean on the user’s phone. Anyone can ask general questions, but requests that use personal data need a paired iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, and HomeView shows personal content only when it sees an enrolled face and that device is nearby and recently unlocked. Apple says some features depend on server-side models with daily limits and that wider access will be paid later.
HomeView is not on sale in the EU. Apple ties this to Siri AI being unavailable in iOS in the EU.
Why it matters
This is Apple’s first new hardware category designed around its generative assistant, and the first Apple product withheld from the EU as a whole because of an AI feature. It also shows Apple’s deployment model: on-device and Private Cloud Compute inference, the phone as the identity key, and a stated plan to charge for heavier assistant use.
