Key facts
- Model: built around Claude Opus 5.5
- Access: waitlist research preview, US Pro and Max subscribers first; standalone iOS and Android apps plus claude.ai; included in plans, same usage limits
- Features: morning brief; monitoring that checks accounts every few hours and messages only when needed; tasks from scheduling to dashboards, forecasts, prototypes and web apps; its own virtual machine and browser; memory, skills and connectors carried over; one ongoing thread, text or voice
- Guardrails: shows the exact action and waits for approval before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything; some actions are banned even with approval (trading securities, moving money between accounts); ‘it never directly sees your passwords or sign-in tokens’; actions screened by the auto-mode classifier plus a sensitive-data classifier
- Integrations: 6,000+ connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace (Gmail, Slack, QuickBooks, Stripe, Gusto, LinkedIn, DocuSign, HubSpot, Canva, Shopify); purchases via Stripe Link virtual cards or Shop Pay
- Stated limits: may ‘misread a thread or miscalibrate what’s urgent’; weaker at personal errands than work tasks; cannot yet show its browser

What happened
Anthropic released its first always-on consumer agent as a separate app. Unlike chat, Duet works unprompted: it reads and drafts on its own and comes to the user with what needs attention, but every outward action waits for a tap of approval. It is aimed at professionals and small-business owners.
Why it matters
With Meta’s Muse (10M+ users by Oct 21) and OpenAI’s Dots already out, all three big consumer labs now ship background agents that act across email, payments and documents. Duet’s approval gates and banned-action list are a public baseline for how much autonomy a lab is willing to give a consumer agent in late 2026.
