Posted 22:56 UTC, quoting OpenAI and linking the preprint Matrix-Multiplication-Nine-Fourths-October-2-2026. Strogatz (Cornell): "Many staggering results here", calling the claim that "the exponent for matrix multiplication is no more than 2.25" (previous record "something like 2.37") "like Bob Beamon's long jump." 118k views. Roko Mijic (112k views, https://x.com/RokoMijic/status/2107612308591485205) added that the proof is nonconstructive: "No algorithm was found, only a proof that it must exist." (unverified characterisation).

Many staggering results here. But this is a particularly amazing one: the exponent for matrix multiplication is no more than 2.25. The previous world record had been something like 2.37. This leap in progress is like Bob Beamon's long jump.
Quoting @OpenAI: We’re releasing a broad range of new mathematical results produced by an internal frontier model.
