Elon Musk: 'We will build and run the fab'; TSMC may at most sublease part of Terafab
Elon Musk @elonmusk · x · 2026-10-07 · ★★★ · archived
Musk's own clarification (~340k views on Oct 7) that Tesla and SpaceX will run Terafab themselves. It rules out the TSMC-owned-and-operated scenario that Culpium had called most likely.
Summary
Musk posted this on Oct 7, 2026 at 06:33 UTC. He was replying to a video post by Herbert Ong (@herbertong, Oct 6; https://x.com/herbertong/status/2107482007596892239, ~131k views on Oct 7). Ong's post covered Culpium's report on TSMC and Terafab and said that "the likeliest deal has TSMC owning and running the fab". Musk answered that Tesla and SpaceX will build and run Terafab, and that TSMC could at most sublease part of it. Bloomberg (Debby Wu), Digitimes and Finimize reported the reply the same day. Separately, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan told Bloomberg that Intel will stay involved.

@herbertong @thejefflutz No, we will build and run the fab. Let there be ZERO doubt about that.
Maybe TSMC subleases part of the Terafab if they want, but nothing more than that.
