Key facts
- Announced Oct 9, 2026 (TechNode, Oct 10, citing TRAE’s Chinese documentation on data migration)
- One app for task planning, content creation and software development; two modes: Agent mode for ‘managing tasks across projects’ and IDE mode for coding and debugging
- Desktop, web and mobile: a task started on a computer can be followed or given new instructions from a phone
- Migration: TraeWork users move chat history, account information and local data through an in-app upgrade; ‘The standalone TraeWork service will shut down on October 23’
- Not reported: which models power it, pricing and user numbers
- Context (search summary, not verified): August reports said ByteDance planned to fold the TRAE and Coze teams into the Doubao organization; how the TRAE brand relates to a planned Doubao Work app is not explained
What happened
ByteDance had two separate agent products under the Trae name: TraeCode, an AI coding environment, and TraeWork, a general agent for office tasks. It has now combined them into one app, in which the same agent plans tasks, writes documents and writes code, with a full IDE view available when the user wants to work in the code directly.
Only TechNode’s short report was read; ByteDance’s own announcement was not found.
Why it matters
ByteDance is treating coding and general office work as one agent product instead of two. The change comes in the same week as personal-agent launches by Ant Group and Alibaba.
